Shamima Parvin Lasker, PhD (USA), EMMB (Europe), MPH (USA), MPhil (BD), MSc (BD) is an Anatomist, Bioethicist and Journal Editor. Of her 30 years of teaching career, she has been working as Professor and Head of Anatomy since 2007 in Bangladesh. She is also the Visiting Professor of Clinical Anatomy, Dentistry and Bioethics; AUSN, USA.

Prof Shamima worked as a Consultant of bioethics for UNESCO in 2009, and FAO in 2015 respectively. At the national level Prof Lasker has established Bangladesh Bioethics Society in 2009 and work for the society as Founding Chairman and General Secretary till to date. In recognition of her dedicated work and organizing ability to promote the cause of Bioethics in Bangladesh, she has been honored as “Honorary Lifetime Membership” of the UNESCO Asia Pacific School of Ethics in 2009. She is also the member of the National Ethics Committee of Bangladesh of BMRC for two consecutive terms (2014-2016 & 2016-2018). In Bangladesh, she organizes many national and international conference, seminar, workshop and innovative programme on bioethics.

Prof Shamima has been occupying herself in Journal editorial system nationally and internationally from 2001. She is the treasurer of WAME (World Association of Medical editors) for the year of 2017-2019 and also served WAME as Director between 2012 and 2014. She is the Chair, Ethics and Publication Policy Committee, APAME (Asia Pacific Association of Medical Editors), a sister concern of WHO for two consecutive years from 2016-2018 & 2018-2021. She is also the Vice President of the Bangladeshi Society for Scholarly Journal Editors (BASE).

Concurrently, Prof Lasker is also working for development and progress of women scientists in Bangladesh from 2006. Currently, she has been working as Vice president of OWSD (Organization of Women Scientist in Developing countries) Bangladesh Chapter. She has seventy (70) peer reviewed articles and has authored many books on Anatomy, Bioethics and Publication Ethics.

Prof Shamima started working for ABA from 2006. She was honored as country representative for ABA from 2006 to 2011 to promote bioethics beyond the boundary. She worked for ABA in Bangladesh and increased the memberships and funds for ABA. Later, she was nominated as Vice president of ABA for two consecutive terms from 2012-2014 & 2014-2016.

She promotes bioethics in medical, research and publication. She upholds the value of free, open and reasoned discussion of issues in bioethics, encourage teaching of bioethics in Bangladesh at all levels by using different innovating tools. Shamima has every ability and passion working nationally and internationally.
